Giclée is an art reproduction process involving high-resolution photography or scanning of an original work of art, a proofing process, and the creation of long-lasting, pigment-ink prints on archival artist papers, canvas or other materials. Giclée offers many advantages over the traditional lithographic printing process, with the main difference being excellent reproduction quality and longevity. Traditional lithography is a four-color process. Giclée printers use a larger number of more permanent inks applied with digital precision. Smaller print runs are possible, and prints can be made on a variety of archival papers, canvas and even silk. If properly framed and displayed out of direct sunlight, Giclée prints will last for more than one hundred years
If you are interested in having your work reproduced at this studio simply give me a call and I’ll answer any questions you might have and go over the basic procedure. Ask for a studio visit if you’d like to meet in person, and I’ll gladly show you samples and explain how I work. Once you’ve placed your order, I first make a very large and detailed digital photograph or “capture” of your artwork . Next I make a series of test prints or “proofs” from the digital file until I arrive at a version that very closely matches your original artwork. Years of experience and excellent equipment have made this easier and my success rate is very high. When the final proof is complete, I’ll ask for your approval at the studio. If you are happy, I will ask you to sign and date the proof. If not, I will make adjustments and produce a second proof. Since I don’t want to waste your time or mine, I make every effort possible to get a perfect proof the first time. Your final giclée prints on fine art paper or canvas are then printed on an Epson printer. All paper prints are sprayed with three coats of an invisible archival UV protective coating. Canvas prints get a glossy, matt or semi-matt roll-on finish. Canvases get a gallery wrap stretching with staples on the back, not on the side. All prints and canvases are delivered in clear sleeves. That’s all there is to it. |
