FINE ART PAPER GICLÉE PRINTS

WHAT CAN BE PRINTED - These prices are for digital files that are ready to print. Original paintings need to be digitally captured and proofed first. 4x5 and 35m transparencies for printing need to be scanned and proofed first. If you are a digital artist or photographer with digital files, see the Testing Digital Files for Printing section for working with these types of originals.

PAPER AND PRINTER INFORMATION - Only the very best archival print papers by Crane, Hahnemuhle, Epson and Breathing Color are used for our prints. All prints are finished with two coats of a UV protective spray that seals the image and vastly increases the expected print life. If properly displayed, your prints should last more than one hundred years. Only Epson pigment inks and printers are used for the giclée prints produced by this studio.

STANDARDIZE YOUR SIZES - It will be easier to frame your work if you can stick to standard paper and frame sizes. To reduce paper wastage and ultimate print cost, try to choose prints that fit closely to standard paper roll sizes (standard roll sizes are 17, 24, 36 and 44 inches).

BORDERS - Always include a border when calculating the print size. Framers like to have at least one inch to work with along the edges, and you'll need a little more room for your signature at the bottom. Prints with wider borders look better and command a higher price. A wide border also helps protect the important image area if a print is roughly handled.

PRICE CHARTS - The first chart below lists common print sizes and prices as well as the cost per square inch for various quantities. Calculate the size of your prints with the inclusion of a border. Multiply the height the width to get the total square inches. Most people add an inch for small to medium prints, and two to three inches on larger prints. Allow a bit more at the bottom for your signatures. Prints come with a clear, archival, protective sleeve.

EXAMPLE- You have an original watercolor painting on paper that is 16x20 inches. The actual image is 15 x 19. You'd like prints with a one inch border on the top and sides, and a slightly larger one and one half inch border on the bottom. Adding these borders to the original image size of 15 x 19 would result in a print that is 17 x 21.5. This is an odd size, but for the sake of this example let me show you what the cost would be.

To get the cost of your print, you need to multiply the total square inches of your print by the cost per square inch. To get the total number of square inches you need to multiply the height of your print by the width.

So....multiply 17 x 21.5. This gives you 365.5 square inches total. If we assume you are getting one print of this, the cost of that would be 15 cents for every square inch of your print. So we multiply $.15 (cost per square inch) by 365.5 (total square inches) to get your cost of $54.83. If you want 11 prints, the cost per print goes down to 12 cents per print. Multiply .12 x 365.5 to get a cost per print of 43.86. Multiply that by 11 to get a total for all prints of $482.46. Massachusetts residents need to add tax to this. If you have a resale number, you don't need to pay tax.

If this is still mumbo jumbo, don't worry, simply call and I'll do the math for you. 781-665-1122. - Steve
